Have Whiplash? How to Get Rid of It

Whiplash is one of the most common things that people suffer from after a car accident. While you may initially walk away from the car accident feeling fine, you may notice the next day and the days following that your back is really sore. This has likely been caused by whiplash. Depending on how severe your whiplash is, you may or may not need to seek medical attention to help find some relief from the pain overall. From icing and heating your back to seeing a professional chiropractor for back pain, this article will take a closer look at a few things that you can do.

Alternate Between Hot and Cold

One of the best things that you can do to combat chronic pain and inflammation is to alternate between both hot and cold. In order to do this on your back try getting a heat pack and some ice packs. Then take your heat pack and apply it to your back for about 10-15 minutes at a time and then put an ice pack on your back for the same amount of time. Try alternating between both hot and cold a few times and then repeat the process a few times a day, especially before bed and first thing in the morning.

Schedule An Appointment with a Physical Therapist

Another thing that you can do is schedule an appointment with a trained physical therapist to learn how to do some stretches for a specific part of your back. The whole point of going to physical therapy is to learn the proper stretching techniques to help you with your back so that you can find some relief from the pain caused by your whiplash. Every time you go to your physical therapy appointment your therapist will show you how to do new stretches properly to target your back. When you practice these stretches at home, make sure that you follow every step as precisely as possible.

Go to a Chiropractor

Chiropractors are doctors that are designed to help people who are suffering from all sort of pain and joint disorders, especially those that are associated with the back. During your chiropractic back adjustments, your chiropractor will crack certain parts of your back to help you find some relief. They will also stretch you out as well to do the same thing.
