Seeing a Chiropractor Following a Car Accident

If you are in a car accident, then you can end up seriously injured. However, even if you are lucky enough to escape serious injuries, you can still be in quite a bit of pain. Either way, you will find that a chiropractor can be a big help when it comes to helping you feel better and heal after being involved in a car accident. Learn more about some of the ways a chiropractor can help you to get better after you have been involved in a car accident here:

1. Help even if you sustained no serious injuries

When you are in a car accident, you may walk away without serious injuries, but you can still be in quite a bit of pain. One of the reasons why you may hurt can be due to tightening up all of your muscles during impact. Another reason you can hurt is from the overwhelming amount of stress you can experience during a car accident, which can end up causing you to hurt in places such as your neck, shoulders, and back.

When you are experiencing this type of pain, the chiropractor will be able to help you feel better much faster than you would without their help. The chiropractor will assess your pain level, your mobility, and other things regarding your physical state to determine how to best treat you. This can include having you lie on the table with ice packs, heat packs, or electrostimulation connections attached to your aggravated areas. They will also likely use a tool called an activator to realign your spine, from your neck all the way down to your low back.

The chiropractor may adjust your spine through manual manipulation. For example, they will "crack" or "pop" your neck and spine by doing a procedure medically known as cervical spine manipulation. They can also pop other joints that may be bothering you.

2. Help when you are injured

If you have been injured in a car accident, then the chiropractor can help with those musculoskeletal injuries. However, if you have a back and/or neck injury then they may need to look at the X-rays and/or MRIs first, so they know how to proceed without causing further injuries. The chiropractor will then come up with a treatment plan that allows them to help you as much as possible while making sure they don't make existing injuries worse.

They may work closely with your doctor and/or physical therapist to help you get to a better physical state. Both your physical therapist and your chiropractor may give you stretches and exercises to help relieve some of the pain, improve your range of motion, build good supporting muscles, and help heal your injured areas as quickly and completely as possible.
